Travel Hacks Everyone Should Know

travel hacksTravel tips that will make your next adventure a little bit easier! Happy Traveling!

  1. Download the app: Download the app before your next trip. Most airline apps offer a variety of tools designed to help manage and plan your trip. Important flight information such as as gate, seat and status at right at the palm of your hand. You can also check-in, download your boarding pass, and change your seat. Tip: Check if there is a flight departing to the same city before your flight. Usually, passengers will arrive early at the airport and get bumped into an earlier flight. If this happens, you can change your seat and get a seat closer to the front or a window seat.
  2. Sign up for Rewards: The system is simple: Pick an airline that you like to fly and that offers a good amount of routes from your city. Become loyal and choose to fly that airline whenever possible, even if the ticket is a bit more than a competitor. If you fly enough each year on one airline, you can obtain gold or elite status. Although there are other perks, by far the best is the complimentary first-class upgrade. Once you have accumulated enough mileage rewards, you can also use them to book a ‘free’ domestic or international flight.
  3. Use the Right Cards: Sign up for the airline’s credit card. Signing up and spending a certain amount within X amount of days (i.e $3000 in 90 days) gets you bonus miles worth almost enough for a free flight. Some airlines offer other perks, like free checked bags and double miles on the airfare booked through the card. Many of these travel rewards credit cards come with free points to get you started.  There are generic travel rewards credit cards that offer more rewards per dollar spent. Good to note is that some airline cards have annual fees and higher-than-average interest rates. Never use these cards if you can’t pay the balance in full each month!
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 again: Wait what? Yes! Repeat steps 1 through 3 again but this time with Hotels. The tips are the same: Pick a Hotel chain you like to stay at (i.e Marriott/Hilton/etc.,) and become loyal. You get perks like extended stays, extra discounts, late check-out, and free upgrades! Like with the travel credit cards, Hotels also have their branded credit card. Start accumulating hotel points for twice the fun!
